Clinical Hypnosis and hypnotherapy

What is Clinical Hypnosis and hypnotherapy

The hypnotic state is a natural state like the waking or sleeping states. In the clinical setting it is a state of deep relaxation and intense concentration in which the mind becomes disengaged from everyday concerns. In this state the mind is able to respond to suggestions and imagery. Hypnosis is a psychological phenomenon, not a therapy. The client is shown how to use the hypnotic state for his/her own benefit. Once guided into this state, you are able to take control of the body through the mind. Once taught, you can then do this for yourself whenever you need it.

Through the media there is a lot of misunderstanding about hypnosis because of its use in entertainment. You will not spontaneously reveal secrets or uncover past traumatic events.

Clinical hypnosis is a co-operative relationship. The hypnotist does not have control over your mind. You are in control and can come out of hypnosis at any time. Think of the hypnotist as a mind-coach who guides you into a hypnotic state then teaches you how to use it to help yourself.
